Thanks to the Golden Globes (a la Robert Pattinson and Peter Facinelli), the People’s Choice Awards (Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner – oh my!), castmembers themselves (Ashley Greene, Twitterers), and, of course, director Bill Condon‘s considerate set photos, the hope that 2011′s portion of filming for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 would be entertaining and informative for the rest of us, too, has been mostly fulfilled.
And information continues to come down the pike, little by little.
For starters, remember how Justin Chon (“Eric Yorkie”) tweeted about the Vancouver set opening up a little earlier than expected? Well, this got Christine Kilpatrick of OnLocationVacations.com to journey out and check out the happenings. And, it seems, the Swan house is under reconstruction.
For those of you who didn’t check out the Eclipse DVD extras, you might not know that some of the sets were built in such a way as to be stored and reassembled with ease. This began with New Moon, once the filmmakers realized and decided this would be a multi-film franchise rather than the solo indie Twilight was originally anticipated to be.
Anyway, Kilpatrick’s video from the set, and explanation of what she’s come to know, is attached.
Meanwhile, The Los Angeles Times has released a new article on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 which includes new quotes and information from Robert Pattinson and Bill Condon.
Here’s what Pattinson had to say about production so far:
“It’s been really hard shooting both films at the same time . . . But it’s the end of an era.”
Meanwhile, Bill Condon had a few things to share about how it’s been from his end:
“All the characters are moving . . . It’s really about the passage from adolescence to adulthood, and they all seem energized by that. It’s the stuff they are all connecting to in their lives.”
He goes on to speak to the fact that Breaking Dawn allows Pattinson and his co-stars to really explore the nature of being a vampire, since a new set of lenses gets put on the viewer, via Bella Cullen, a vampire herself and our continued protagonist/narrator.
The L.A. Times also released another bit with Bill Condon in which he discusses how Breaking Dawn fits into his film history.
“I had started in horror and genre movies and had been looking for a way to do another one . . . I love vampires and I liked this series and I thought the stories were amazing. It seemed exciting to me cinematically. It was something I was really excited to get back in touch with.”
I don’t know what to make of this part, honestly. Biggest fear of most Twilight fans when it comes to Breaking Dawn 1: that it’ll turn into a flesh-fest gory horror film. I guess it’s a good thing Bill Condon released his latest on-set images before these words so we aren’t confused into thinking these fears would be realized. Other than this, Bill Condon’s words have seemed very tailored to an understanding of the franchise and its fanbase. Maybe it is taken out of context, or perhaps I am over-reading an emphasis on the horror/genre aspect of the quote. Your thoughts?
