The Berlinale was shown the film by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman on Howl, the most famous poem, along with Kaddish, Allen Ginsberg. The poet is played by James Franco and the film portrays the famous Ginsberg poetry reading that took place in the Six Gallery in New York, surrounded by the staff of the Beat Generation. The film will be released in autumn in the United States.

And this month has seen Francis Ford Coppola finally fulfilled his dream to film On the road, project that competed with Guus van Sant. Coppola chose as the Brazilian director Walter Salles (Motorcycle Diaries), who began shooting the film on day one. Sam Riley plays Sal Paradise (Kerouac's transcript) and Garrett Hedlund plays Dean Moriarty, the protagonist of the novel, a character inspired by Neal Cassady, who many consider the most genuine beat. Kristen Stewart is the wife of Moriarty and Kirsten Dunst is involved in a minor role, while Viggo Mortensen is Old Bull Lee, a character loosely based on William S. Burroughs. The cast is completed by Amy Adams, who plays his wife, Jane, inspired by Joan Vollmer (Burroughs woman).

The movie had to be shot in 2005, but was paralyzed by financial difficulties Coppola. Walter Salles used the break to tour the four trips that Moriarty (Cassady) and the experience needed for filming.

Fod Francis Coppola hopes the film will be released in the U.S. during 2011.
