Hollywood News: Bella and Edward kissing scenes in “Eclipse” may be more natural

Though Team Edward fans love to see Bella and Edward kiss on screen, “Twilight” and “New Moon” kisses left something to be desired. True to the Edward character, Robert Pattinson admits having deliberately held back. In alignment with Stephenie Meyer’s description of the vampire, whose terror at the prospect of losing control of his bloodlust or hurting Bella with his strength is described in the books as pervasive, kisses between Bella and Edward in early movies were, necessarily, played down.

Yet, by the time we reach “Eclipse”, Edward’s self-control has changed—he is, by then, more accustomed to Bella’s scent and has developed some modicum of self-control. “Kissing felt a little bit more natural in Eclipse, even if there was plenty of it,” told the actor to Parade.com. “In New Moon and Twilight it was always like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna kill you if I kiss you’ or something. It was always kind of odd. But, in this one, they both understand their situation a lot more, which makes it easier. It’s the first time Kristen and I have been able to just act like a normal couple.”

Indeed, kisses toward the end of “New Moon” begin to confirm Pattinson’s statement. Bella and Edward’s reunion kisses in Volterra held an unprecedented release compared to those depicted earlier in the film. And, for fans looking for truly unbridled passion between Bella and Edward, no holds need be barred when Bella is a vampire in “Breaking Dawn
