Robert Pattinson of ‘Twilight Saga’ has not read ‘Breaking Dawn,’ will star in 2 film adaptations – Appearing at a press junket on Saturday, June 12, 2010, British actor, Robert Pattinson admitted that he has not yet read Breaking Dawn, the fourth novel in the Twilight series of books by Stephenie Meyer. Though he has not yet read it, Mr. Pattinson has committed to reprising his role as vampire Edward Cullen in the film adaptation of the book. Summit Entertainment will make two movies out of the fourth and current final book in the series, it confirmed to news outlets this week.
At the press event, Mr. Pattinson admitted to not having read Breaking Dawn yet, but that he plans to do so now after he is finished filming his current book-to-film project, Water for Elephants, based on the bestselling novel by Sara Gruen.
For many readers, the last book in the Meyer series takes a turn away from romantic fantasy and more into the neighborhoods of horror or science fiction. Certain scenes in the novel may be quite graphic to portray on screen, making audiences in some circles crave a higher than PG-13 rating. Some readers believe that filmmakers will “water down” the story enough to keep the rating at PG-13 so that the franchise can continue to draw in its targeted demographic of teenaged and young adult women.
Other fans who enjoyed the novels up until the last one may be surprised to hear that Robert Pattinson has not yet read it. Would he have agreed to star in the final two films if he had, they wonder? The movies will be directed by Bill Condon.
The third film adaptation, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is due in theaters June 30, 2010.
