Cannes 2012: OTR and Cosmopolis strong contenders and SWATH a possibility
Cannes is still a couple of months away so anything can happen, and much can change so this is our more level-headed, buyer-beware cautious entry into the world of speculation that tends to become engulfed in a lot of wishful thinking. All signs point to another strong festival, with a top tier list of filmmakers likely to make the journey.
Strong Contenders
“On The Road” (dir. Walter Salles)
Cast: Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, Tom Sturridge, Sam Riley, Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams, Steve Buscemi, Terrence Howard
With production on the film beginning way back in August 2010, and additional photography happening last spring, it has been a slow but steady path for this highly anticipated, years in development adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s seminal novel. The director gave fans good news in January when he revealed that editing and mixing on the film was finally finished. And with a May 23rd release already set for France, the film’s appearance at Cannes feels like a fait accompli from our vantage point.
“Cosmopolis” (dir. David Cronenberg)
Cast: Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Jay Baruchel, Sarah GadonBefore the end of the year, David Cronenberg told us that he was finishing the sound mix for the film, which means it’s nearing the finish line. Meanwhile, producer Gregoire Melin recently told Cineuropa he is “counting on” the film showing up on the Croisette. Additionally, “Cosmopolis” is a co-production between French and Canadian backers, so we presume we’re looking at Cannes premiere, followed by a TIFF bow before rolling into theaters this fall. Cronenberg is a regular at the festival but hasn’t been there in a decade since “Spider,” so we’re sure they’re going to want him back.

Again, Cannes is no stranger to hosting blockbusters and the last two years have seen summer movies “Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Robin Hood” unspool in the south of France. Will “Snow White And The Huntsman” fill that slot this year? With the film set to open on June 1st (just a few days after Cannes closes) the timing seems right, and a splashy premiere would be a nice final topping on what is already a steady publicity machine behind the pic.

New Pictures of Kristen on a Photoshoot for SWATH
Popsugar reports that Kristen had a photoshoot for SWATH today. Oh how we have missed this pretty face. Can't wait to see the photoshoot!
Kristen Stewart teamed up with her Snow White and the Huntsman costars Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron for a photo shoot in LA today. Kristen arrived in a casual hoodie and later changed into a plaid shirt to pose with her leading man, Chris. The trio wrapped the film just before the holidays and since then they've all kept busy with new projects and well-deserved vacations.

Oh god, no! It’s SO not. I started shooting the film so there was more footage of me. But then Kristen took over. That’s the only reason it was like that. She’s amazing in the film.

Why We’re Excited About It: While the idea of two Snow White movies wasn’t exactly the most appetizing thought, the first trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman was kind of badass. In his feature film debut, the first look at Rupert Sanders’ iteration of the classic story definitely took a lot of people by surprise; it’s much more Lord of the Rings than Alice in Wonderland. Charlize Theron is a delight any time she gets a meaty character to chew on, and she appears to be in fine form here as the Evil Queen. We haven’t seen much from Kristen Stewart yet, but turning Snow White into a sort of reluctant warrior is definitely an interesting direction. Sanders’ visuals are epic in scope, and I’m enticed to find out if this ambitious fairy tale delivers.

Nick Frost Talks About Dwarves Time on Set, Kristen and SWATH Sequels
You just finished filming another movie. Tell me about your experience on Snow White and the Huntsman — or, as the fans call it, SWATH.
SWATH! It was great.
I saw a picture of you and your fellow dwarfs in your dwarf gear and your dwarf hair.
Yeah, they shaved me bald every day just to put hair on me, which was weird. It was like, well, I had hair anyway, and you shaved it all off… to then put a wig on.
You’re in great company with the other seven dwarfs. What was that cast like?
It was fantastic! I got to hang out with Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Johnny Harris, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, for God’s sake. I got to just sit around and listen to those guys tell stories.
I like the idea of Kristen Stewart, of all people, sitting in the middle of that group of men — and also the colliding of worlds, your universe and fan base overlapping with Twilight.
Exactly! I was sitting next to Bob Hoskins and Bella Swan!
Please tell me you and Bob Hoskins and Kristen Stewart talked Twilight on set.
Not really. I think she’d be pretty sick to the bloody back teeth of listening about Twilight. On set she’s another actress, and a lot of the time actors just talk about nothing. Talk about shit, they just chew the fat. That’s what you do!
And did you sign on for multiple SWATH films as well?
Three, yeah. We’ll see where it goes. We were talking about it on set the other day, where it would start and what it would be. We’ll have to see how well it does, I guess. But I think we’d all love to do another one. We had a real laugh every day.

Nick Frost Talks SWATH Dwarves and Praises Kristen
Frost indicated that the dwarves brought some levity to the film, but said that he was excited to watch Stewart’s transformation into a more empowered Snow White. “We’ve seen ten or fifteen minutes of it on set, and it’s great,” he revealed. “It’s very gothic, and I think the dwarves try to bring a little comedy into it, and there’s heart to it, and Kristen Stewart’s great as Snow White. On the one hand, she’s fragile, and you want to kind of give her a cuddle. But on the other hand, she wears armor, and wields a sword like any warrior. I like that, and I think that’s quite unique, really, that you can do that. She can, on one hand, be one thing, and literally on the flip of a coin she can turn into this other thing. So I think it should be pretty good – I’d like to think it’s going to be pretty good, anyway.”

Kristen Expected to Attend SWATH Premiere in Moscow in 2012
86 Universal International Expo has announced the Russian Snow White and the Huntsman premiere in Moscow in Spring 2012. Kristen is expected to attend along with Chris Hemsworth. The international trailer was also shown there which is slightly different from the one that we have seen.

Charlize Theron Talks Her Big Showdown With Kristen in SWATH

Ever since the trailer arrived for Kristen Stewart's next likely blockbuster, "Snow White and the Huntsman" -- a.k.a. her first big post-"Twilight" movie -- we've been chomping at the bit for more info about the film.
Luckily, MTV News had a fun-filled chat recently with Stewart's "Huntsman" co-star Charlize Theron, during which the South African-born beauty revealed that she and Stewart are about to shoot the film's climactic battle sequence.
"I'm still shooting ['Huntsman'], I'm going back in two days," Theron told us as she promoted the comedy "Young Adult." "I haven't really worked with [Kristen]. I've done some small things with her, but we're about to shoot our big showdown, and fingers crossed for me. It's the big battle. I'm just really, really, really hoping I get to kill her," she said with a smile. "That is how the story ends up, right?"
While the Rupert Sanders-directed flick is a new adaptation of the classic fairy tale, somehow we don't think Theron will get her wish. Maybe her Evil Queen will wound Stewart's Snow White in some way, but death doesn't seem too likely.
For her part, Stewart has had nothing but praise to heap on the film -- so much so that she's open to the idea of doing more than one movie as the fairest one of all.
"Oh, man, to be totally candid and honest with you, when I first signed on to this thing, the idea of doing another franchise was like, 'Wow, [we'll] cross that bridge when it comes.' It was something so far outside my realm of thinking," Stewart told us recently. "I was so focused on the first one, and I thought, 'Maybe, maybe,' but I've got stars in my eyes. I'm literally over the moon about what I'm doing right now," she said of her work on "Huntsman." "Yes, I would love to [do more 'Snow White' films]."

Lily Collins Reveals She Auditioned for SWATH and Talks About Kristen: "She’s perfect for her version"
Can you imagine Snow White and the Huntsman with Lily Collins? The beauty who portrays Snow White in Mirror Mirror told Access Hollywood she auditioned for Kristen Stewart‘s role!
“I did read the other Snow White script,” Collins told correspondent Elizabeth Chambers, the gorgeous wife of Lily’s co-star, Armie Hammer. “I auditioned for it, but I’ve been so excited for Kristen. I think that story is so different than ours and the girls are so different. She’s perfect for her version, and I’m really excited to be doing this one and I think they have totally different audiences.”
Judging from the two trailers, these films will not be similar.
“Our Snow White starts off as the fairytale princess we all know and love and then she progresses into a young woman and much of a fighter, but it’s not an edgy version of the story or a darker version,” says Lily. “It’s very much a comedic adventure and I think the other one is a little darker.”
